Origin and Establishment

The history and foundation of the Internal Audit Association of Maldives.

Our Journey

The initiative of establishing an Association began by unifying about 25 Chief Audit Executives (CAE's) and Heads of Internal Audit functions within the Internal Audit community of Maldives, forming a platform through WhatsApp for collaboration. Over the past year, we have dedicated significant effort towards the foundation of an Association for the Internal Auditors of the Maldives, which includes spearheading several key initiatives including establishing an Institution/Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA Maldives), aimed at the development of our industry within the country and the region.

With the support and contributions of many professionals from diverse institutions, we have taken significant steps toward establishing our association. Officially registered on the 1st of September 2024, we have since progressed significantly, building strong foundations and advancing the internal audit profession in the Maldives.

A major milestone was the successful conduct of the first Executive Committee election on 16th February 2025, which achieved a 97% voter turnout and ensured a smooth transition to democratically elected leadership. With governance and financial records formally handed over, IAA Maldives now operates as a fully established professional body committed to strengthening internal audit standards, fostering collaboration, and creating long-term value for the profession in the Maldives.
