Professional Background

Akram is a Certified Internal Auditor and one of the leading voices shaping the future of governance and internal audit in the Maldives. As the Founding Chairperson and current Vice Chairperson of the Association, he plays a pivotal role in establishing the association and building a modern, united, and future-ready audit community.

He serves as the Chief Internal Auditor of Regional Airports Company Limited and has led major internal audit reforms across key SOEs.

A Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives (CA Maldives), he contributes to national standard-setting through the Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Committee, supporting the development of regulatory frameworks and mechanisms for monitoring professional standards.

He has spoken at leading national platforms, including the State Internal Audit Conference and the Maldives Accountants Forum, delivering sessions on modern auditing and governance transformation.

As recognised professional trainer, he has conducted capacity development programs for numerous SOEs and large companies and is a key trainer in the Audit Pulse: The Insight Series, focusing on practical, standards-aligned methodologies.

He is also a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Institute of Internal Auditors Global (IIA Global), and the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA). Recognised for his agile, forward-looking audit approach, he is committed to shaping an internal audit profession that keeps pace with the speed of risk and strengthens public value.
